Growth Strategy #12: Modelling the best people

2 Oct 2023

As I work to scale reevew.co, aside from business and strategic planning, I am also ensuring my inner world is optimized and aligned with what I desire to achieve. From previous experience, I know that working on myself is just as important as working on my business, as in the past a fear of failure, limiting beliefs about money and working with others has got in the way of making progress.

A useful presupposition I learned as a master practitioner of neuro-linguistic programming is 'Act as if'. It suggests that by adopting the thoughts, behaviours, and mindset of someone who has already achieved the desired outcome, we can increase our chances of success. This inspired me to add exercises to the Reevew personal growth toolkit, where you can explore the life lessons and strategies of 100+ top entrepreneurs.

Good for: Deconstructing and learning from the strategies and successes of others

Best used by: You

It involves deconstructing and analysing these entities to gain insights into their inner workings and replicate or improve upon them. Today, we can apply the same principles to our personal growth and development endeavours.

Modelling, as a way of learning from successful people, has proven to be incredibly useful in my personal development journey. By studying and emulating individuals who have achieved what I aspire to, I've been able to save valuable time and gain new perspectives.

The wisdom and insights of these successful individuals have provided me with proven strategies and approaches, helping me avoid costly mistakes. Modelling has expanded my mindset and allowed me to see beyond my previous limitations, opening up new possibilities and ideas.

By observing their behaviours and habits, I've learned valuable skills that have positively impacted my own life. Additionally, the stories and achievements of these role models have ignited a strong sense of motivation and inspiration within me, reminding me that my goals are attainable.

Modelling has not only contributed to my external success but also supported my personal growth, as it encourages self-reflection, introspection, and self-discovery. Moreover, engaging in modelling has connected me with like-minded individuals, creating a supportive network and providing access to valuable resources.

By integrating the qualities and strategies of successful people into my own journey while staying true to my authentic self, I have experienced accelerated growth and an increased likelihood of achieving my aspirations.

There are several ways that you can apply this strategy to personal growth by applying it to the success of others:

  • Identify inspirational figures who are individuals who have achieved personal growth success and resonate with your aspirations.

  • Analyse their strengths and strategies by studying their journeys, habits, mindset, goal-setting techniques, and approaches to life and growth.

  • Extract key their underlying principles, beliefs, and core values that contributed to their success, focusing on what resonates with you.

  • Adapt to your journey and tailor the reverse-engineered strategies to align with your goals, strengths, and areas of growth.

  • Be courageous and embrace experimentation, to allow you to take calculated risks, explore different approaches, and be open to adjusting your strategies based on results and feedback.

Once you have this information you can use it to develop a roadmap and start to break down your milestones into actionable steps, creating a structured path towards your own goals.

Here are the pros and cons of using modelling for personal growth:

Pros:

  1. Clarity and direction. Providing a clear roadmap by studying successful individuals and their journeys.

  2. Time Efficiency. By learning from others' experiences, you can bypass trial and error, accelerating your personal growth and saving time.

  3. Customization. You can adapt the strategies to suit your unique goals, values, and circumstances, ensuring a personalized approach.

  4. Expanding Perspectives. Exposes you to new ideas, perspectives, and possibilities, broadening your mindset and challenging self-imposed limitations.

Cons:

  1. Lack of Originality. Relying solely on this strategy may limit your ability to develop unique approaches and ideas.

  2. Contextual Differences. Strategies that worked for others may not fully consider your individual circumstances, resources, or challenges.

  3. Unrealistic Expectations of Immediate Success. Potentially leading to disappointment or discouragement.

Remember, modelling is a powerful tool, but it is essential to blend it with your authenticity, creativity, and individuality. Embrace the wisdom of others while staying true to your values and aspirations.

In my quest for personal growth, I have discovered several effective ways to find individuals to model. Researching and exploring in my area of interest has allowed me to uncover successful individuals, experts, and thought leaders who have achieved remarkable results.

Attending industry events and conferences has provided me with opportunities to learn from accomplished professionals and connect with like-minded individuals. Online platforms and communities have also been valuable in identifying individuals who have excelled in my desired field. Additionally, reading biographies and autobiographies and listening to interviews on Youtube has offered personal accounts of journeys, challenges, and strategies for success.

Thank you for reading.
